Our SALT (School Allotment Leadership Training) are designed to provide teachers, teaching assistants and youth workers (anyone gardening with teenagers) with the skills and knowledge to lead a school allotment/garden at secondary school. It's a great opportunity for the charity to share our wide experience, ideas, recommendations and with lots of positive energy too! Our SALT courses are also a wonderful way to bring like-minded people together to openly discussing ways to inspire young people to 'give it a grow'!

Our SALT courses led by our very experienced charity staff, including Matt Willer BEM, founder of The Papillon Project and RHS School Gardening Champion of the Year (2018).

Our SALT courses cover the following topics:

  • Leadership, sustainability and engagement recommendations
  • Practical advice with physically creating school allotments (including upcycling examples using reclaimed/recycled materials).
  • Gardening top tips and guidance with making compost
  • Health and safety guidance
  • Welcomed opportunity for participants to ask their own questions.

Please scroll down to find information about when our SALT courses will be running in 2026 and how you can register an interest in attending.

For people's convenience, and to widen the reach, we will be holding two online SALT courses in early 2026 on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 21st January 2026 (4:00pm-5:30pm)

  • Wednesday 11th February 2026 (4:00pm-5:30pm)

Please be aware that there is no fee for participants from schools who follow our Membership Programme this academic year (2025-26), but we ask other participants to make a £15.00 donation for attending a SALT course. All funds raised go to support our charitable work and future SALT courses too.
